Lake Miltona Walleye Fishing
Lake Miltona is a diverse and healthy fishing lake. As you can see above on the maps and images, the bottom structure has a mix of shallow flats, submerged islands and bars, shallow bays, and plenty of areas of emergent vegetation and weediness. The walleye fishery is very good. As you saw above, by the last survey information, the average walleye on Lake Miltona is almost 15 inches and about 1.5 pounds.
Lake Miltona Muskie Fishing
Muskies are stocked on an alternating year schedule in Lake Miltona. This helps to maintain the opportunity to catch this large fish as the lake has come to support a very popular musky fishery. Miltona is one of only three lakes within the Glenwood Management Area and central Minnesota where muskie fingerlings are stocked. Because this, the trophy potential for large musky on Lake Miltona is high.
Lake Miltona Ice Fishing
Lake Miltona ice fishing is some of the best around the Alexandria area. Because of the size of the lake, and the diverse structure, finding good spots to drop and locate your ice fishing house should never be a problem. Typically, starting in the month of December the lake starts to form good ice. And by the end of December and into January Lake Miltona ice fishing is in full swing. Historically, even as early as late November, Lake Miltona has had 3 to 8 inches of ice for fishing.

Lake Miltona Water Clarity
Lake Miltona water clarity will remind you of the Caribbean. Most people who are new to the lake are shocked by how far you can see down in the lake, and just how clear the shorelines and sand beaches are. It's hard to explain without seeing it for yourself. The water clarity has been increasing year over year for some time. While there are many potential reasons, the impact of Zebra Mussels in the lake are likely key to the current water clarity. Zebra Mussels were confirmed in Miltona in 2012. When you look at the map below, showing which lakes in the Alexandria area have Zebra Mussels, you can see the progression starting at Lake Irene in the northern most location, into Lake Miltona, Lake Ida, into the Alexandria Chain of Lakes and even working south of interstate. It's well known that Zebra Mussels impact water clarity and you can see below the impact of mean water clarity for Lake Miltona. It's been rising steadily since the late 1980s and water clarity is, on average, increasing about 1 inch of visibility per year.

What an incredible place! Weekdays in the summer.. Very few boats on the water.. It was like we owned the entire lake. We caught Perch, Bluegill, Rock Bass, and Walleye using leeches. I recommend this lake, for family fishing!

We spend summers on a lake in Minnesota but no summer goes by that we don't visit Lake Miltona. It has everything that is needed for a great time! It's a big lake (over 5000 acres) so there's plenty of space for water sports and fishing in summer and ice fishing in winter.
